The offshore wind industry has grown solidly over the last ten years, adding significant value to the European economy. This success is reflected not only in the diversity of SMEs within the sector, but also in the number of jobs. Experts estimate that the Belgian offshore wind industry will account for some 15,000 to 16,000 jobs by 2030.

Different types of jobs

This mainly concerns jobs in the development, construction, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of wind farms. The demand for qualified personnel for various positions within the offshore wind industry remains very high. These include jobs at sea, at the port and inland, such as engineers, electricians, offshore operators, ship and contractor specialists, control room operators, ship's support crew, technical maintenance personnel, ship-builders and logistics operators.

Education & further training

Finally, in addition to finding suitable personnel, the education and further training of employees is another important issue for the offshore wind sector. Employees and their capabilities, after all, will determine the future and evolution of the offshore industry.
